Experior Championships Point’s Standing After Six Tournaments

Experior League Championships will be held on April 25, 2020, 5:00 pm
TOP 16 players with the highest points will qualify for the Experior League Championships final and will play double elimination 41 Point Handicap Event.
Players will earn points when participating in weekly league events (Friday or Saturday League)
All league participating players will be eligible to advance to league Final and win cash prizes.
Every league participant will receive 10 points for participating in the league event.
For winning any match in a league event player will receive 2 points.
For match default, the player will lose 5 points.
For withdrawal, the day of the tournament player will lose 5 points.
For no show, no call 10 points will be deducted.

The 41-Point Handicap Event is a fun, new and exciting format that gives everyone a chance to win the “Experior League Champion Title”, even if they’re playing against far more experienced players. In essence, the event attempts to put every player, regardless of skill level, on an even playing field by giving a lower-rated player a set handicap when going up against a higher rated player. For example, under this format, a very young or inexperienced player with a rating under 1300 could go up against an elite level player with a ranking of over 2300. In this scenario, the elite level would spot the sub-1,300 rated player 33 points in a game to 41. For event seeding, Experior Club rating will be used.

Cash Prizes:
1st Place – $250
2nd Place – $150
3rd Place – $125
4th Place – $75

Due to the unique nature of this event, inexperienced players will get the chance to see what it’s like to play against the best, and will still have a chance to challenge them, despite the range in skill!
Here is the Handicap Chart:

2020 World Table Tennis Championships postponed due to Corona Virus

Following news last Friday of the first confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Busan, Korea Republic, an emergency contingency meeting was held between the ITTF Senior Management, the Korea Table Tennis Association (KTTA) and representatives of the city of Busan to discuss the status of the Hana Bank 2020 World Team Table Tennis Championships.

Following the meeting, the following decisions were subsequently confirmed and approved by the ITTF Executive Committee and all stakeholders in Busan:

To postpone the event, originally planned for 22-29 March 2020
To provisionally reserve the dates of 21-28 June 2020 and to monitor the situation in the coming weeks.
Given the uncertainty and changing situation in Korea Republic amidst the outbreak of COVID-19 across the nation, the decision was made with the health and safety of players, officials and fans as the top priority.

In light of the postponement of the Hana Bank 2020 World Team Table Tennis Championships, the ITTF is currently working with the local organising committee of the World Tour Australian and Korean Opens to find suitable dates for those events, which had been scheduled to take place during the same period.

The ITTF places on record its thanks to the local organising committee in Busan and the KTTA, led by president Ryu Seung-min, for their outstanding professionalism in dealing with this extraordinary situation. By continuing to work hard and in close cooperation with all stakeholders in Busan, the ITTF remains confident about putting on a great World Championships in June.

Chelsea Edghill qualify for World Teams Table Tennis Championships

Image result for Chelsea Edghill

Chelsea Edghill, former Lindenwood University student and currently Guyana’s National Female Team Member will head to Busan, South Korea where she will take part in the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) 2020 World Teams Table Tennis Championships.
According to the long-serving GTTA administrator, the selection was made based on the proven results gained by the performance of the women team players.

“Previously teams and individual players could have been nominated by their respective federation, and play and participate in the World team and individual championships.

However, the new format of the ITTF provisions requires that teams and individual participation must be done through a continental qualification system/process which is based on results/wins in international competition, which makes the selection even more noteworthy, given that there is a quota system and process solely allowing for the best and elite teams in the world.”

Munroe noted that our top female players, including Caribbean bronze medal winner Trenace Lowe, former Caribbean U-21 champion Chelsea Edghill, current national champion Natalie Cummings, seasoned veteran Jody-Ann Blake and Priscilla Greaves have excelled in international competitions by claiming several team medals at the Caribbean level, Pan American Qualification (silver medal) and Commonwealth Games (quarterfinalists).
